A Time to Revel

definition of Revelry:  unrestrained merrymaking

Shrieks of laughter, giggles, and unrestrained delight danced through open windows to my listening ear. What could possibly be so fun in my front yard? I stepped out to see Finley and Cohen swinging on an old tire swing Micah and Jeff had just put up two days before.

“Naaa-naaa!” shouted Finley.  “This is THE BEST ADDITION you’ve ever made to your house- ever!”

“Yeah Nana. Dis is awesome!” Cohen yelled.

Real-ly?  Ever? I thought “Not the computer?  Not the Big Screen TV? Not the nifty, techno games our children never had?

My grandchildren think an old tire is the BEST ADDITION I’ve ever made to my house?! LOL!!! They only confirmed what I knew was true before E.E. (electronic era) It is the SIMPLE things in life that bring the most pleasure. Is the converse true- because we fill our lives with complicated things, life gets more stressful?

1.  It doesn’t take money to revel and make merry.

2.  It does take  INTENTIONALITY to Make the BEST ADDITION you could ever make to enhance your life:

Make today a TIME TO REVEL.

Life can be so full of heartache and worries, that the childhood days of revelry seem a million miles away. And I know there are “times”, seasons in life, where it’s almost impossible to revel.  I believe God knows that life can get “heavy” so He liberally infuses His creations with simple beauty.

God daily provides “points of entry” into revelry.

They are the hidden, and not so hidden, surprising treasures of life.

Watch the leaves gallivanting and dancing.  Tune your ears and open your heart to hear wind rustle the leaves on the trees applauding their Maker!  Inhale and take a “life infusion” from that crisp, autumny air.  Relish the taste of a fresh, juicy apple or warm, gooey cinnamon rolls, realizing God relishes you even more! Count all the shades and hues of red, orange and yellow. Tip back your head and guzzle some apple cider. Walk with a loved one in the light of the silvery moon. Smile at everyone you meet.  Snuggle a baby. Banish your worries.  Arrest your time thieves.  Count your blessings. Most of all- keep today  SIMPLE.

autumnSurprising Treasure:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV says-

“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:…”

As long as we have breath, we can find someone and something to revel in- and then give Him thanks for providing those surprising treasures.

I love you so much! Let’s revel today! Beth’s and Finley’s Dazzler’s Dance Team in the Baldwin Parade. Family walking around together. Grandchildren. Holding hands. Haystack Onion Rings (I hope, I hope, I hope!). Fall foliage. Then David Crowder Band tonight. Revel!

Autumn, my favorite season next to Christmas, holds similar memories full of such delight. How does that poem go? “Make me a child again, just for tonight….” Thank God for the little ones in our lives. Their “interruptions” can make our priority lists vanish in a moment as we join them in their glee and revelry. Your treasure stories are so uplifting to a body’s heart and corners of the mouth 🙂 Thank you precious Cindy!

We are truly kindred spirits Edy. I love Autumn! God is so generous- I think of that scripture- DAILY- I load you with benefits. (can’t remember the ref. right now-) “Living between the trees” sure can get our eyes out of focus and our heart out of sync from His unending river of love! Hugs-

[panel style=”default” title=”About Cindy” text_align=”left”]Jeff & Cindy

Hi, I’m Cindy- 35 years of “livin” with my prince charming, Jeff. I’m a home maker, not a house wife, parent of 7, memory maker, mama bear, Nana to 11 & counting, Pastor’s wife and I’m daily amazed by the depths of God’s love.

I love reading, home schooling, encouraging others, playing the piano, worshiping, dating my husband, and planning parties and retreats for our clan. Someday, I really want a horse and learn to play the cello and viola.
