Momma- Who is God? a bedtime quest*

Momma- Who is God?

  A Bedtime Quest…..

Tucking Beth in bed last night

I kissed and hugged her very tight.

Joining hands, we began to pray

Grateful for our awesome day!

Suddenly Beth popped up in bed,

smiled at me and then she said,

“BUT Momma, Who is God?

Thinking hard of all I knew

How to tell Beth what is true

How God is mighty, good, and kind

How we can trust Him all the time.

In my heart I could hear,

an answer ring so very clear

I shared good treasure from above

“My little girl- God is Perfect Love.”

“I love LOVE! Mommy,” Bethy cried

And snuggled closer with a tiny sigh

I know He loves me and loves me good

I want to love Him as I should.

I'm Thinking, I'm Thinking

She giggled & wiggled, then stroked her chin,

Beth started over and asked once again

“But Momma, Who is God?”

I laughed and gave her tummy tickles

And said, “You are such a silly pickle.”

But I will tell you now and later

God is your own personal Creator!

She clapped her hands with so much glee

And shouted, “You mean God made me?!”

God made me! That’s so great!

God is LOVE and He CREATES!

“Let’s calm down and sing a song

Bedtime’s going very long

God was and is and always will be

God is Love and Creates ALL-  you see?”

Bethy cheered, “I know He’s with me in the night

and helps me walk in His love light!”

“But Momma, Who is God?”

Keeping laughter trapped inside

I rehearsed, “God is deep and high and wide!”

God is Father, Spirit, Son

God is holy, three in One.

Eyes grew wide and Bethy said,

as I laid her back in bed…

“So God is bigger, wider, high

Can I see Him if I fly?

God is holy, three in One

Can I see Him if I run?

Silly goose, not with eyes but with your heart

Every day is a brand new start

We learn about Him as we grow

There is no end of Him to know!

Beth settled down, I started to go

She held out her hand and whispered real slow-

“But Mommy, Who is God?”

God is all your dreams can hold

Perfect love worth more than gold

He’s your Savior and your Friend

With Him LIFE will never end.

Beth with joy said,  “God is good!

I will love Him as I should!

He is Perfect Love I see!

I want Him to live in me!

Child, He will fill you, every space!

Grow you, guide you, give you grace!

All you need is found in Him!

You’re His treasure.  Say Amen.

Sleepy eyes drifted closed

Heard 4 words – such glory prose

“Mommy, I love God.”

I stroked her hair and kissed her head

Rejoicing in the words she’d said

For God is willing to be found

Look up, look out, look all around.

Who is God? I’ll tell you true

He’s the one in LOVE with you!

The Surprising Treasure is that when we deposit God’s Word in our children’s hearts- it brings never ending wealth and riches.  When Beth was learning to read, I wrote her first book-Who is God- a catechism for your child.  It had lots of repetition and she read it when she was 4, telling me Jesus lived in her heart.  I recently condensed it to this poem form, which is in process of becoming my first ebook- a bedtime story about our quest to know who God is.

God is perfect love.  I John

John 1:12  To all who receive Jesus, and believe in His name, He gives the right to become children of God.

Bethany, God, prayer, treasure

thanks Linda! I love writing in rhyme. I’m working on a new one where Bethany asks Who am I? where she is asking why she’s different.

This really is beautiful mom. The elegantly simple and well said conveys such beauty and truth. Sometimes to understand the most we must become like a child and humble ourselves and just be in awe and wonder of God. The fear(awe/reverence) of God is the beginning of wisdom after all 🙂

awww Debbie- thank you! <3 you. I'm meeting with someone this week about turning it into an ebook format- I can give you a heads up when that's available. I don't know if I know enough to jump through the hoops to get it printed 🙂 but I'd love to do that. I have a friend who is an AMAZING artist so pray that if that's a direction we should pursue, God would lead the way. If you feel like it would bless someone, you have my permission to share it- just include my name and a prayer that God will use it. 🙂

Cindy – I LOVE your poem and everything that goes with it! You have learned all those God-lessons so well, and He is using those talents He gave you so exquisitely to bless our hearts. I plan to post the link to this page on facebook and the FaithWriters “porch.” I’m also going to want to purchase dozens of your “real” books, when this goes to print. Bless Bethany’s and your bumpity hearts! Hugs and kisses from me to you!

[panel style=”default” title=”About Cindy” text_align=”left”]Jeff & Cindy

Hi, I’m Cindy- 35 years of “livin” with my prince charming, Jeff. I’m a home maker, not a house wife, parent of 7, memory maker, mama bear, Nana to 11 & counting, Pastor’s wife and I’m daily amazed by the depths of God’s love.

I love reading, home schooling, encouraging others, playing the piano, worshiping, dating my husband, and planning parties and retreats for our clan. Someday, I really want a horse and learn to play the cello and viola.
