Incomplete Knowledge and Discovery

bethanyphone“Mom! I can’t find my Bible Verse in your phone Bible, Mom!”

I looked at my screen and double checked.

“What’s the Bible verse again, Bethie?”

“Ephesians 2:8,9  – It is by grace that you have been saved, through faith. It is a gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

I quickly looked at the screen on EBible. She had found Ephesians 2:8,9.

“You’ve got it, babe.  Right there it is- Eph. 2:8,9 .” I highlighted the verse.

“NO,  Mom.  That’s not my verse. Listen! It’s not the same thing.” She proceeded to read the verse when understanding dawned. “I see what you mean Beth, but it is the same verse.  My  e-bible is a different version than the one you memorized the verse from, so it doesn’t sound quite the same, but it means the same thing.”

“No, it’s not.”

“Let me try to explain, Bethany. I could say- hello, Beth, how are you? or I could say, Hi Beth, how ya doing today? It would be the same meaning even the the words are a bit different. Do you understand now?”

A light glimmered in her eyes together with lingering doubt.

“Maybe.” she replied.

I want to share with you a precious treasure the Lord spoke to me while this whole scenario was unfolding.

The Father was showing me, the similar relationship I have with Bethany is comparable to the relationship He has with me.  Even though I pride myself on being an adult with understanding and knowledge, compared to the Ancient of Days, the Father and Creator of all- I really don’t know that much and I am but His child.

[Tweet “We are all #children, dependent on our #Father’s grace and compassion.  #FatherHeart”]

No matter how much we learn- God’s knowledge is beyond our discovery.

We are ALL limited in our understanding, literal in our interpretation, slow to understand; ultimately bound by our humanness. Even as the universe is unfathomable, unmeasurable, mind blowing; so also is His goodness, holiness, love, and compassion beyond our finite, feeble minds.

And just like I yearn to have Bethany understand more- More of everything- the depth and breadth of it all- the Father God, desires the same for His children.  There is so much treasure we do not yet know! He has not hidden Himself from us.  He sent His Son to live in the flesh to bridge the divide and show us the way home to Him.

The point today?

We don’t/can’t know it all, and that’s OK!

We’ll never know it all, but our Father desires us to journey on to know Him and the treasures of His glory!

Now we see a blurred image in a mirror. Then we will see very clearly. Now my knowledge is incomplete. Then I will have complete knowledge as God has complete knowledge of me.

If you have seen the Son then you can know the Father. There are so many insights in this post. Knowing God reaches into language and translations and yet it also something else that is simpler and even more profound. Yesterday I was watching a video with Bethany on the mind, reason, and our capacity to know God. Bethany was listening and watching. I said, “Bethany, we are more than a computer made of meat. We have a soul. The capacity to reason and see God.” I said it, not expecting Bethany to get all of what I was saying because I was kinda talking to myself. But Beth looked at me and said, “Well, I feel Him in my heart.” Enough said!

God knew exactly what He was doing when He blessed us with each one of our children! Love you!

A positive word like that. It is real, we depend on our earthly understanding to the point where we have forgotten that the ways of God are greater than we imagine or think of. That’s why we ought to tap into divine wisdom by reading the Word of God. Thank you so much for that wonderful letter.

Hi, I’m Cindy- 35 years of “livin” with my prince charming, Jeff. I’m a home maker, not a house wife, parent of 7, memory maker, mama bear, Nana to 11 & counting, Pastor’s wife and I’m daily amazed by the depths of God’s love.

I love reading, home schooling, encouraging others, playing the piano, worshiping, dating my husband, and planning parties and retreats for our clan. Someday, I really want a horse and learn to play the cello and viola.
