Superhero – we only need One

February 23, 2012 / Cindy Barclay / "Treasure Trove" Blog Roll
14

One morning,  I was doing Wii Fit and Cohen was watching “Uncle” Josh getting ready for a day at Washburn. Cohen excitedly informs me, “Nana, when I gwow up, I’m gonna go to college just like Uncle Dosh, but  I’m gonna study soccer, basketball, and baseball.  Den I’ll graduate and you can come watch me play all de time.  I’ll get you tickets so you can come watch me.”

“Well, that’s cool Cohen! But besides sports, what else do you think you’d like to study at college?  Uncle Josh is studying Law Enforcement.  He’s going to help people.  What would you like to learn that would teach you how to help people? Would you want to become a doctor or a dentist, a pastor, policeman, a businessman or a teacher? There are lots of things you can learn so you can help people!”

Cohen’s face lit up, “No, Nana, none of dose tings-

if I’m gonna help people, I’d better become a Superhero.”

I laughed but it started me thinking.  One of the reasons I  get discouraged is when I can’t BE the SUPERHERO in my family and friends lives.  I love to help.  When I learn of the sorrows and needs that people have, my natural instincts kick in and I think, “What can I do?”

But as I grow “older” and “wiser” the more I realize that in my own strength and resources, I can’t meet those needs.  Instead of worrying or lamenting that “I” can’t do anything, I try to start praying for them immediately and encourage them to look to the only SUPERHERO that will never fail them!  He is unlimited in power and might- full of love and mercy- able to make all things work out for good- able to speak galaxies into exsistence- able to take the sins of the world upon Himself and reconcile the world- this SUPERHERO is UNLIMITED and WILLING to work in His creation’s lives for His glory.

When I think of it that way- who needs to be a superhero anyway?

Jesus is the only One who Saves to the uttermost!

🙂 I heard on Christian radio today- we should all seriously think about resigning as the GM (general manager) of the Universe- God’s the one in control!

Oh so true! What a great analogy. He will always sweep in just in time to save the day! Even if that means gatherings us in His arms and carrying us through the fire consuming us.

Hallelujah – what a Savior. I was thinking about posting that newer song- ???- Hero by Abandoned I think. Jesus is so amazing in what He’s done and still doing, I’m not sure we can begin to wrap our minds around His awesomeness!

I talk to God always and Him hears me. the faith of a little child!

[panel style=”default” title=”About Cindy” text_align=”left”]Jeff & Cindy

Hi, I’m Cindy- 35 years of “livin” with my prince charming, Jeff. I’m a home maker, not a house wife, parent of 7, memory maker, mama bear, Nana to 11 & counting, Pastor’s wife and I’m daily amazed by the depths of God’s love.

I love reading, home schooling, encouraging others, playing the piano, worshiping, dating my husband, and planning parties and retreats for our clan. Someday, I really want a horse and learn to play the cello and viola.
